At FPL, we understand that our seasonal and part-time residential customers face unique energy challenges, including:

  • avoiding high energy costs during the summer months when your home is vacant
  • reducing the risk of mold and mildew developing in your absence, and
  • deciding how to handle your FPL account and electric bills while you're gone.
That's why we offer tips and billing options to help you protect your home and furnishings as well as manage your energy costs when you're away.

A programmable thermostat can help you avoid mildew and high bills

One way to help prevent mold and mildew from developing in your vacant home is to control the relative humidity inside. You can accomplish this and still manage your energy costs by using a programmable thermostat to run your air conditioner at 70° for just four hours each morning and at 88° the rest of the time.

Using a dehumidifier, if you have one, set to 58% relative humidity instead of air conditioning, will save even more.
