Energy consumption (kWh) refers to the total amount of energy used throughout the month, which affects your bill. Charging multiple EVs at the same time can increase your costs due to higher energy demand (kW) within a month. It’s the peak demand – the highest amount of power drawn at one time – that can make the biggest impact to your bill.
For example, at a location with four chargers, each capable of 200 kW, the billed demand can range from less than 200 kW to 800 kW, depending on your vehicle’s battery rate of charge, charger output and simultaneous charging events. As more people adopt EVs, the likelihood of simultaneous charging increases.
