Meet Bernard Johnson

Bernard H. Johnson, Jr. is FPL’s regional external affairs manager serving Okaloosa and Walton counties and surrounding areas. Bernard is responsible for building and fostering community relationships and coordinating external outreach for major construction projects including solar centers and reliability projects.  He has a Master of Business Administration and Marketing from Troy University.

Bernard joined the company 33 years ago as a lineworker and has worked in Engineering, Customer Service and Marketing and served as the Fort Walton Beach district general manager.

He is involved in many civic and nonprofit organizations, serving on the United Way of Okaloosa/Walton County board, Economic Development Council of Okaloosa County board, BBVA Bank board, Fort Walton Beach Medical Center board of trustees and Northwest Florida State College Foundation board. He also serves as a commissioner of Fort Walton Beach Housing Authority and a member of the Emerald Coast Military Affairs Committee.

Bernard has a strong focus on workforce development and retention, and also supports the Air Force mission in Northwest Florida as the Air Force Chief of Staff Civic Leader, and through service on the Okaloosa County Economic Development Council Executive Committee, member of the Tri County Partnership Initiative, and as a member of the Technology Coast Manufacturing and Engineering Network.  

Bernard and his wife of 29 years, Lisa, live in Niceville and have five adult children and two grandchildren. They enjoy traveling and spending time with family and friends. 


Meet Brandon Eckard

Brandon Eckard is a graduate of the University of West Florida and began working at the company in 2008 as an electrical engineer in the Pensacola area. In 2019, he joined the solar development team to help bring zero-emissions solar energy to Florida’s panhandle.

Throughout his career, Brandon has volunteered with multiple organizations in the local community, including serving on the board of the Last Mile, a running event that benefits the Northwest Florida YMCA and Bike Pensacola. He is also an active member of Momentum Church.

Brandon is married to Dee, and the couple fully renovated a historic home in Pensacola to bring it back to life. He and Dee enjoy riding bikes whenever possible, and Brandon also stays active by fishing, running, climbing, and surfing.
