Florida Power & Light Company is pleased to support the New Worlds Reading Initiative, Florida’s free home reading program that delivers books and activities to K - 5 students in public and district-sponsored charter schools who are not yet reading on grade level.

Enrolled children receive a free book and activities each month during the school year through fifth grade, unless families leave Florida or choose to unenroll. Families can choose what books they’ll receive when they enroll, growing their home library based on their interests. Activities are for families and children to engage in together to strengthen literacy skills, build reading confidence and foster a lifelong love of reading.

The program is administered by the UF Lastinger Center for Learning, who has selected Scholastic as a partner. Books are selected in collaboration with the Florida Department of Education, and materials are available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and braille. Learn more at New Worlds Reading.
