Ensuring Reliable Service

Every day, our customers benefit from the nation’s most advanced energy grid, which helps us improve service reliability today and beyond.

In 2023, PA Consulting honored us with its Outstanding Resiliency Award, recognizing our work to build a resilient energy grid that can better withstand day-to-day and severe weather conditions. This year, we’re excited to continue building the grid of the future for our customers by:

  • Expanding our Storm Secure Underground Program (SSUP) – since 2018, we’ve improved service reliability by installing more resilient underground power lines in nearly 2,000 neighborhoods, with plans to bring these benefits to more than 1,100 neighborhoods this year alone.
  • Integrating the self-healing smart grid technology that has helped FPL avoid over 13 million outages since 2011 into our underground neighborhood lines.
  • Continuing to harden the grid by strengthening main power lines in coastal communities and lines that serve critical community facilities, such as hospitals and 911 centers.
  • Taking reliability to new heights through our FPLAir drone program, which will conduct more than 140,000 flights in 2024 to monitor our equipment quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • And using artificial intelligence technology to identify, maintain and limit the impact of trees and debris that make contact with FPL equipment.

Together, these efforts have helped us improve your service reliability by more than 40% – and we’re not stopping there. We’ll continue innovating to make the grid even more reliable, providing you with energy you can depend on in good weather and bad.
