What is the FPL SolarTogether program?

  • FPL SolarTogether is designed to provide all FPL customers, whether they own or rent their business, an opportunity to directly participate in the environmental and financial benefits of Florida-based large-scale solar energy, while directly supporting the expansion of solar energy in Florida.
  • Customers can subscribe to FPL SolarTogether by paying a fixed monthly subscription charge and receive escalating monthly bill credits for their share of the solar energy produced. It is estimated that over time, credits will increase, lowering their monthly energy bill.

Who can participate in FPL SolarTogether and how are the costs/benefits different between customer rate classes?

  • All FPL customers and all rate classes are eligible to participate in the program whether they own or rent their residence or business. The monthly subscription charge and subscription credit rates are the same for all rate classes.
  • The program is available throughout FPL’s service territory on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to subscription availability.

Why am I not eligible to participate in the FPL SolarTogether program?

  • To participate in FPL SolarTogether, your account must be current with no delinquent balances, in addition, there must be 12-months of usage data associated with your premise and at least one month of billing usage.
  • Participation in FPL SolarTogether may also be terminated by FPL if you become subject to collection actions on your FPL account.

If I participate in the FPL SolarTogether program, will FPL be installing panels on my roof?

No, panels will not be installed on your roof or your property. The power generated by FPL SolarTogether solar energy centers will be delivered directly to the energy grid, where it is combined with power generated from conventional energy sources — in FPL’s system.

With my participation in FPL SolarTogether, will the solar energy produced through the program be delivered directly to my business?

  • No, the power generated by FPL SolarTogether solar energy centers will be delivered directly to the energy grid, where it is combined with power generated from conventional energy sources — in FPL’s system.
  • To further optimize the program and better align with industry best practices, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for your share of the energy generated will be retired automatically — providing an easy and affordable option to achieve your sustainability goals.

What are Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)?

  • A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) represents one-megawatt-hour of electricity from a renewable power plant, such as the FPL SolarTogether solar energy centers.
  • To further optimize the FPL SolarTogether program and better align with industry best practices, FPL will automatically retire RECs for your share of the energy generated — providing an easy and affordable option to achieve your sustainability goals.
  • Each REC is uniquely serial numbered and tracked in a certified renewable energy registry that documents ownership of the REC. Upon request, FPL will provide appropriate documentation.

What is the maximum subscription capacity available for commercial/industrial demand rate customers participating in the FPL SolarTogether program?

  • Commercial and industrial demand rate business customers may subscribe to FPL SolarTogether to have up to 45% of their energy usage come from solar. You can also elect to add the remaining balance, to total 100% of your company’s energy usage, to the program’s waitlist.
  • As more capacity becomes available, customers will be notified based on the order they joined the waitlist and will have 14 business days to complete their enrollment. You can ask to be removed from the waitlist at any time without penalty.
    • Subscription availability can occur when an existing participant decreases their subscription, an existing participant unsubscribes from FPL SolarTogether or as additional capacity becomes available.

Why is the maximum FPL SolarTogether subscription only 45% for commercial/industrial demand rate business customers?

  • FPL SolarTogether has been extremely popular and given the overwhelming interest and the size of the program, offering 45% provides more customers with an opportunity to participate.

    • Subscription availability can occur when an existing participant decreases their subscription, an existing participant unsubscribes from FPL SolarTogether or as an additional capacity becomes available.

Why is the FPL SolarTogether program being extended?

  • We recently received approval to extend the highly popular FPL SolarTogether program – more than doubling what’s already the largest community solar program in the country spanning FPL’s service area – from Miami to Pensacola.
  • The extension will add another 24 solar energy centers, or 1,788 MW of additional FPL SolarTogether subscription capacity, for a total of 3,278 MW or 44 solar energy centers.
  • The 44 solar energy centers will be strategically located across Florida to generate maximum solar output even when it may be cloudy or dark in parts of the state – providing the additional value that comes with generating even more solar energy.

Will the extension change how the original FPL SolarTogether program worked?

  • The extension of FPL SolarTogether allows us to increase the subscription credit from 3.4 cents to 3.6 cents in year one and maintains the estimated seven-year payback timeframe.
  • The new credit rate, which took effect at the start of April 2022, ensures everyone will benefit from the same great benefits – whether you subscribed in 2020 or plan to subscribe in 2023.
  • No changes will be made to the program's monthly subscription charge. It will remain $6.76 per kilowatt subscribed.

Will changes be made to the subscription charges and credits because of FPL SolarTogether program's extension?

  • No changes will be made to the program’s monthly subscription charge. It will remain $6.76 per kilowatt subscribed.
  • Customers who are already enrolled in FPL SolarTogether and future participants will all share in the increased benefits that result from a 44-solar energy center program – we implemented an improved subscription credit rate schedule, which became effective for existing participants on April 1, 2022.
  • The year-one credit rate increased from 3.4 cents per kWh to 3.6 cents per kWh effective for existing customers on April 1, 2022 – and will increase 1.5% annually. This is the same for residential and commercial customers.
    • The credit schedule was submitted to the PSC and can be found on their website at www.floridapsc.com.
    • It is important to understand that in any given month, season or year, actual credits may be higher or lower.
    • Actual solar generation is influenced by varying weather conditions, such as cloudiness, temperature, the angle of the sun, rainfall and other factors.
    • Due to this weather variability, it is expected that actual subscription credits will vary month-to-month, year-to-year, or over multi-year periods.

    • Monthly Subscription Charge is equal to $6.76 multiplied by your subscription level (subscribed level, kW).
    • Monthly Subscription Credit represents your portion of the actual solar power generated. For example, for a 100 kW subscription level:
      • Subscription Charge: $6.76 x 100 kW = $676.00
      • Energy Produced: 190 hours x 100 kW = 19,000 kWh
      • Subscription Credit: 19,000 x 0.0359792 = $683
      • A Net Monthly Subscription Cost of $7.60

If I participate in FPL SolarTogether when will billing begin?

After you complete the enrollment process, you will receive confirmation of your projected billing start date or you can access this information on your FPL SolarTogether dashboard on FPL.com.

When can I expect to see the FPL SolarTogether subscription lower my FPL bill?

  • We estimate that you could achieve payback within an estimated seven-year time frame. Break-even is the point at which your total subscription credits received are more than your total subscription charges.
  • You can also access this information on your FPL SolarTogether dashboard on FPL.com.

Is my FPL SolarTogether subscription transferable, and if so, what are the guidelines for transferring my subscription?

  • Yes, your subscription is transferable to another metered account that is in your name (i.e., a different retail store location, office, or manufacturing operation).
  • We will assist you in finding another one of your FPL accounts with similar usage to your current subscription, or we can adjust your subscription in the program to align with the new account associated with your subscription.

As a participant in FPL SolarTogether, can I claim the Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit?

No. The monthly subscription charge already factors in the financial benefits associated with the Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC).

How will FPL SolarTogether solar energy centers perform during/after hurricanes? Will my subscription be impacted?

  • Like all FPL solar energy centers, the FPL SolarTogether energy centers are built to local wind and building codes. To date, our solar energy centers have performed extremely well during major storms, including Hurricanes Matthew and Irma.
  • FPL is responsible for operating and maintaining the solar energy centers. Post-storm, there may be some damage or loss, resulting in lower solar power.  As a result, your credit could be lower.
  • Power from the FPL SolarTogether solar energy centers cannot be used as a backup power source during an outage.

How does the FPL SolarTogether program compare to private (rooftop) solar?

  • FPL supports private solar, and we continue to work with our customers who choose private solar and their installers to help ensure the safe interconnection of their systems.
  • The FPL SolarTogether program provides all customers with an affordable and accessible solar option and an alternative to private solar. Customers will not be bound to a long-term contract, financing, installation, equipment or termination fees. Customers are not required to carry additional liability insurance as the panels are not directly attached to the home. Subscription is also transferable if participants move within FPL’s service territory.

What are the FPL SolarTogether program terms and conditions?
