FPL’s reliability is already industry leading, and we’re continuing to make our system even stronger and smarter. At the same time, we recognize that forces beyond our control – like Florida’s extreme weather – can cause power outages and create inconveniences for our customers. FPL has formed the Optional Supplemental Power Services (OSPS) pilot program to offer customers voluntary backup power solutions for their homes and businesses.
The pilot program provides customers with an opportunity to receive backup power services, typically through a backup generator installed at a customer’s home or business, for a fixed monthly fee on their electric bill. This voluntary service provides peace-of-mind and convenience by combining a voluntary, all-inclusive service with FPL’s already industry leading reliability.
Today, residents and business owners who purchase generators not only incur significant up-front costs, they also take responsibility for proper ongoing maintenance and associated costs. Under FPL’s voluntary OSPS pilot program to provide backup power as a service, FPL is responsible for the maintenance of the backup power source, relieving customers from this responsibility.
