In the unlikely event of an emergency, school children may be proactively relocated to host facilities outside the emergency planning zone. Public and private schools in the 10-mile emergency planning zone have emergency plans in place to ensure the safety of children. Please check with your school to learn more about their emergency plans.
- DO NOT disrupt an evacuation by attempting to pick up your children at their school. This causes traffic congestion, security risks and impedes the ability of authorities to move children to safety. Pick up your child at the host facility.
- Do not phone the school as the phone lines are needed for emergency use.
- Local radio and television stations will announce when and where school children may be picked up.
- Parents and guardians can pick up children at the host facilities.
If your child attends school in St. Lucie County
- Pick up your child at the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds located at 15601 West Midway Road, Ft. Pierce.
- Take Interstate95 to the Midway Road exit; go west 4.5 miles.
- Stay tuned to local radio and television stations to determine when and where school children may be picked up.
If your child attends school in Martin County
- Pick up your child at Martin County High School located at 2801 South Kanner Highway in Stuart, or South Fork High School located at 10205 SW Pratt Whitney Road in Hobe Sound.
